Reflections

These are my thoughts this morning as I wake up early and use this time for fellowship with God and reflect back on my life. I first want to thank God for leaving our long term memory canal still open enough to be able to go back and reflect and feel blessed that he gave me such a special life. Of course there was the hardships, sorrow, and such, but I am so thankful that I had the privilege to grow up during a time where there was still innocence; where we believed in fairies, the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, Elfs, and Storks that delivered babies. Where the Federal Communications Department didn’t allow swearing on TV , Radio, or CB radios, and real censorship was enforced and strict ratings and VALUES. Where we were taught to respect our elders and call grown ups Mr. or Mrs Jones, etc. Where first thing every morning in our classrooms at school we stood, faced the flag, with our right hand over our hearts, as our principal came over the loudspeaker and led us through the Pledge of Allegiance. It made us feel proud of the United States of America. Where we gathered together around the radio to listen to the adventures of Sky King, the news, and our first black and white television set with a strange pattern and sound when the station was off the air. Where children were to be seen but not heard when the grown ups got together so we’d all go outside and play kick the can, hide and seek and baseball or basketball. How the air smelled and the golden glow of the sunset cascading over the land as it slowly descended. Life felt good then, fun and free. Yes, I truly feel blessed to have those memories to fall back on and I thank God for them. It gives me a peaceful feeling, a happiness, a humbleness.

Published by From A Widows Perspective

Losing a spouse is so different than losing another family member. Don’t get me wrong, they are all hard. But with a spouse there is always a constant daily reminder of them. Every meal time, television time, card playing time, morning prayer time. No more anniversaries, grocery shopping together. Meals--how do I cook for just one? I posted this and more on my Facebook page and all my friends and family members that are also widows/widowers responded with their personal perspectives of what they too have been going through. This gave me the idea of starting a blog for all who have lost a spouse to be able to share their experiences and perspectives, what is working for them, and just someone to talk to who truly understands the roller coaster ride they are on. So here we are.
