Mindset

While staying at my daughters for the winter, we decided to check out the local churches in this little town they moved to last spring. We thought we would try to go to most of them and determine which was the best fit. We put the church names in a hat and each drew one. The church with the most names was Assembly of God. So off we went. We were immediately greeted by lots of friendly elderly people. They informed us they had a guest pastor today as their pastor just had surgery. Many of the songs were familiar ones and when the pastor spoke, he told us the theme for the next four weeks was to be about Mindset. How it affects what we do or don’t do, how we perceive things and people. And much more. All these things have a lot to do with our mindset. It got me thinking…how do I perceive myself as a widow. What roll am I suppose to play or do I play one. Does it even matter. Am I the grieving widow? Am I the strong independent widow? When meeting new people do I explain why I am temporarily staying with family? Then listen to their sympathetic responses as my heart lurches yet again. Sometimes the questions they ask leave me no choice. I need to ponder on this more. I have a feeling as I go through this grieving process I will change my mindset and along with that change, others might change their’s of me also. We will see.

Published by From A Widows Perspective

Losing a spouse is so different than losing another family member. Don’t get me wrong, they are all hard. But with a spouse there is always a constant daily reminder of them. Every meal time, television time, card playing time, morning prayer time. No more anniversaries, grocery shopping together. Meals--how do I cook for just one? I posted this and more on my Facebook page and all my friends and family members that are also widows/widowers responded with their personal perspectives of what they too have been going through. This gave me the idea of starting a blog for all who have lost a spouse to be able to share their experiences and perspectives, what is working for them, and just someone to talk to who truly understands the roller coaster ride they are on. So here we are.
